Massachusetts National Guard M1 Carbine?

I found a pretty gnarly Quality Hardware M1 Carbine today with this brass disk on the bottom of the grip.

I was just wondering if anyone has seen a carbine with a disk like it.  I suspect that the 72 is a rack number.

Yes, have seen these before. You are correct, it's a rack number.

There's nothing wrong with it at all, the bore/crown is good and it functions as it should, it's just a bit gnarly looking. 

 

I put the pouch on it but the sling/oiler and mag must have been with it for a long time because they were just as worn and dirty as the carbine was. I guess the mag could have came from anyplace but it fits right in too.  :lol:
