thomasglover Posted May 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2019 Hi All, I've just purchased what I believe to be a US issue variation of the first pattern subdued 25th ID patch. Shown below on the left next to a definite US issue on the right. The patch in question was advertised from a dissolved 1970s collection (of mostly USAF patches) as Vietnam locally made but I believe it to be US period manufactured. I just haven't seen this type yet (I've only had a few 25th ID first pattern subdued but with some variation). The patch is removed from a uniform and has a gauze backing. It's a little longer than my issue one but I have seen this in other US issue variants. It also has a slight stiffening product (light glue or starch) applied to the gauze and doesn't seem to be like a repro. Any thoughts on this one? Thanks, Tom
thomasglover Posted May 13, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted May 13, 2019 And a pic of the reverse. And for info I've been collecting (very much on and off) for a bit over 30 years but would greatly appreciate comments from other collectors.
phillock Posted May 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2019 Hi Thomas Looks like a standard US made first pattern twill variation with the cheese cloth backing. Note edging around the lightning bolt is another pointer. I have a ranger tab and below 198th Lt Bde. Phill

thomasglover Posted May 13, 2019 Author Share #5 Posted May 13, 2019 The 198th is the only other one I’ve seen like this and they are very common. I’ve never seen a 25th ID like this before though OR any other infantry division SSI. Anyone seen another of these anytime?
