Lt. Kelly Posted May 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2019 Hi fellow collectors, I have been offered this 2nd infantry division M1943 field jacket which has a 48 star flag attached to the right arm. I know the US army used several types of invasion flags early in the war in Africa and later in southern France, Normandy and with operation Market Garden and Varsity. My question: Would this 2nd ID jacket have been issued with a recognition flag immediately after the war, when the division served as an occupational force in Germany? Or could this also be a type of late war invasion flag? Regards, and thanks for your time!
Indexred Posted May 13, 2019 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2019 I’d guess the flag (and perhaps all the insignia) was added to the jacket by a reenactor.
Rhscott Posted May 13, 2019 Share #3 Posted May 13, 2019 I would say reenactors did this as well. Never seen any M43 jacket with both 2ID and Invasion flags. 2ID came ashore in Normandy wearing M41 jackets and wools. Fantasy piece.
