robinb Posted May 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2019 I've had this for a few years and have yet been able to identify it's purpose. There's and ordnance wheel inspector stamp on the handle. It's about the same size as a Browning machinegun water chest.
Logan C. Posted June 28, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 28, 2020 It kind of looks like a water can for a machine gun.

72psb Posted June 28, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 28, 2020 Can not tell you the exact use of the container. However,"coal oil" was specifically used for cleaning in the Ordnance Department. Also used for lamps in the field otherwise provided by the Quartermaster Corp. This may help in trying to determine what your container was for.
