Over the top OSS Colonel's Uniform on eBay

So this guy popped up on eBay, by seller theoldcolonel. It is clearly over the top in my book. I personally think it's a frankenstein of good and not-so-good insignia...but whoever put it together really went all out.

What do you all think?

Super all out. Those ribbons are nice!

They're probably the nicest ribbons I've seen not on a general officer's uniform.

This was discussed on the forum a couple years ago and it was deemed to be a put together. http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/214774-oss-colonels-uniform-on-ebay/

Justin - thanks for the link.I had a feeling it had been, but couldn't find that link for the life of me. The new photos are better now though!

Surprisingly, the 2014 auction is still up on eBay, so I took some screenshots of it to compare with this one. Looks like theoldcolonel is hoping to make some money on his uniform, for sure... :)

And for more posterity's sake, here is the current description. You know...just for historical record...

From the two descriptions, I appreciate how the original description states that it came from the VFW, and the new one says it came from a friend of the colonel...

That reminds me of a uniform I looked at 25+ years ago of a famous general. I asked about the provenance ... and they said it came from a VFW where the general donated some of his insignia and the VFW filled in the gaps to creat the complete uniform for display. Museums do the same thing ... in fact museums create copies of uniforms to switch out for display.

Very nice uniform, I'm guessing not named as well. Interesting there are two invasion arrowheads on the ETO ribbon. I guess the Colonel would have had to been in two of the five invasions of the ETO. I guess it is feasible with the 82nd Airborne Division, the Colonel could have participated in the Invasion of Sicily and Normandy. But it looks like the Colonel also earned 9 battle stars along with his two invasion arrowheads! Quite the combat career...

I wonder how much this would be worth for just the sum of the parts?

  • 1 year later...

It's back ... like a bad penny.... only $4,490 this year.

Still no name attached... seems like an easy task considering every ribbon and patch is on it PLUS preceded by the 82nd airborne.

Just to educate myself...the green "leaders" stripe on the arms... I have two NCO Ike jackets with a leaders stripe but I was unaware that this was done on officers coats. Normal? Common? Rare? or unheard of?

Late reply, but I believe they were usually on the epaulets. Either under the rank insignia or the DUIs. Don't believe I have ever seen the green leadership stripes on the arms of an officers jacket, but I guess it could be possible.

Thanks for responding, if anyone has an officers jacket with sewn leadership arm stripes, it will be here.

As for the posted jacket, it sure seems to have every bell and whistle imaginable.
