mes Posted May 7, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 7, 2019 Harold Metzger was born Sept 23 1920 in Kansas and later moved to Edwardsville Illinois where he when to high school and worked at the local newspaper until he took a job at a local refinery.He enlisted in the navy and enter the navys preflight school on Feb 23 1943.He was commissioned an ensign on 1-1-44. Assigned to USS Wasp cv-18 Fighting Squadron 81. Harold shot down the group first Zeke. On Feb 17 1945 during aerial combat in the vicinity of Tokyo Japan He went missing it is believed he was down by Japanese fighter planes. He was declared dead on Feb 18 1946 a year and a day later. Harold Metzger was local to me and I met his brother years ago so when this group came along I knew who he was. It has a place of honor in my collection.
