mvmhm Posted May 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted May 4, 2019 A few days ago we received the artifacts of a father and son; the father served in WWI aboard the USS Minnesota and at the beginning of WWI aboard the USS Shenck. His son served in the Air Force in the Korean War. The father died in 1960 while the son passed away a few years ago...after his death, his property was given to his next door neighbor. When they died, there was no one left to pass it along to..some things went to Goodwill, while the family cleaning out the house brought these to us - and there's more than what I'm posting here (mainly hats and some Civil War to late 1800s photos). Here's the fathers reefer jacket and visor hat; I found his ribbon bar in the pocket. His name and rate are in the hat. Mark sends
mvmhm Posted May 4, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted May 4, 2019 I forgot to mention...the father enlisted in July 1917 and he retired in June 1945. Here's the son's Air Force uniform, which has a 1950 contract date. There's also an Ike and a greatcoat.
mvmhm Posted May 4, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted May 4, 2019 And in his pockets were three of his medals...along with the 1960 dated requisition form. Not that the Good Conduct Medal is more than twice the price of the NDSM and KSM.
mvmhm Posted May 4, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted May 4, 2019 ..and the medals...each box was in a small envelope with the last four of the stock number written on them. I assume the "1st" indicates it the basic award and no devices are included.
