RememberThe5thESB Posted April 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 21, 2019 Went to visit my grandparents this weekend and took a good trip to the antique stores in town, some neat items I couldnt afford like an early FB FS blue navy pot. But this one caught my eye, it's a FS SB that's been over painted white, and has had at one point served as a "Lake County Sheriff" helmet (Riot gear I'm assuming). Its stamped 373 A, which leads me to think it might be a schlueter or QM repair. And the best part was the liner, an early war unpainted A washer Firestone liner, in great shape. Which also has a strange marking, "J&J" Sent from my SM-J327V using Tapatalk

Wake1941 Posted April 21, 2019 Share #5 Posted April 21, 2019 Wouldnt be surprised if it was surplus and used by the police post war. Still a nice helmet
RememberThe5thESB Posted April 21, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted April 21, 2019 I wonder what the rectangle on thie side is? Is it under the white paint? It appears to be under the white paint. I'm not sure, it seems raised about the rest of the paint but is oddly more clean and less yellowed? Sent from my SM-J327V using Tapatalk

RememberThe5thESB Posted April 21, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted April 21, 2019 The liner was the main reason I picked it up as its earlier and very clean. But the helmet appears very nice under the white paint with some excellent cork left. And it was absolutely used by the police post war, a quick search of lake county police patch brought up a patch the exact same shape as on the front of the helmet.
