Tonomachi Posted April 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 19, 2019 This is a heavy duty reinforced backpack with stenciling that looks like RG-172. I looked up RG-172 on the Internet and nothing. I'm guessing maybe made for carrying a radio of some kind?
Tonomachi Posted April 19, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted April 19, 2019 Back. I can't make out the stenciling underneath RG-172.

Tonomachi Posted April 19, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted April 19, 2019 I also found this leather rifle scabbard at the flea market. It looks like the WW2 one made for the M-1 Garand except it is missing a side piece. I cannot find any "US" stamping anywhere on the leather. Is this US military or maybe a civilian aftermarket piece?

This particular bag was use to carry a variety of accessories for the SCR-694 radio.

dustin Posted April 19, 2019 Share #9 Posted April 19, 2019 I would also like to add that the BG-172 has been significantly modified into a back pack. Likely surplus store modified which is the most likely. The original form just has a shoulder strap, think of the original configuration as a canvas trunk. WWI contract for the 1903 rifle, very nice pick up in that condition with straps date is normally near the throat of the scabbard and can be very faint. mrrm Posted April 21, 2019 Share #11 Posted April 21, 2019 Like the rifle scabbard. Treated properly it should clean up very well and help to preserve it.
