Hi all,

Bought these 3 grenades locally. None had fuses, I added a fuse to the black grenade, it is appropriate for that type? Also the WWI type with remains of bluish grey paint has had the thread ground down to smooth - any idea why? Thanks in advance for any help.

The blue appears to be of the earlier MK1 design.THe threads being removed maybe for the purpose of a practice/throwing grenade.A fuze couldn't be threaded into it.I understand a lot of the older grenades were converted to throwing grenades.

The black looks like a early Mk2 design and HE.THe early fuzes had a cut back buchon and a short lever.

The third looks like a French F1 WW1 era body

I agree with Doyler about the French F1 grenade.

I had a French farmer hand me a live unexploded one he had just dug up with his tractor while plowing his field in the Somme area

I very carefully found a place where hopefully it will never be found again
