Anyone get one of these pistols yet? A friend of mine just received his and he got a 1944 dated Remington Rand, in really nice arsenal refurbished condition. Looks brand new, came with a 80s or 90s Govt contract mag. Not sure how mix matched all the parts are but its certainly a great looking pistol to shoot. Would love to see the examples anyone else got here.

US Military Guy

I did see one for sale sitting of a dealer's table at the gun show last weekend (complete with CMP certificate showing delivery - January 2019).

So, I suppose you will always be able to buy them at the show.

Looks like they aren't too happy about the observed gun show sales either. Wouldn't be surprised if big brother fines ensued.

What were they going for through the CMP?

Too much, plus they had this stupid lottery system just to be able to get in line to get one....and you had to do a NICs check, twice....

Yeah, the CMP site post below would tend to indicate that! Not sure how they think they could ever realistically say this tho... And besides, what do they think most people are doing with the what, 9 M-1 Garand rifles that they allow a person to purchase every year???

1911 UPDATE – MARCH 2019 IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO OUR ATTENTION THAT SOME CUSTOMERS ARE RECEIVING THEIR 1911 AND POSTING ON GUN BROKER AND OTHER SUCH SITES FOR RESALE. THIS WAS NOT THE INTENTION OF THE PROGRAM. IF YOU ARE FOUND TO BE RESELLING THESE PISTOLS YOU WILL BE BANNED FROM PURCHASING FROM THE CMP FOR AN INDEFINITE PERIOD. WE ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WE WILL HANDLE, PLEASE NO PHONE CALLS OR EMAILS CONCERNING THE SITUATION. THANK YOU!

We have received no information about the future release of anymore pistols. When we know we will post the information on our web site.

All they had for grades as of November was Service Grade. If you read various forums, they were pretty nice. Service Grade - $1050, Field Grade - $950, Rack Grade - $850, Auction Grade - sent to their auction for bidding.

You will never hardly touch one at any show for that, unless it's a beater. Not that I have ever seen. And the lottery and two NICS checks, yeah, a pain, but in my mind not a big deal, you have to do that for any gun at a dealer anyway I guess (NICS), the application, hey, its a chance to own a piece of history and I KNOW its original government issue, no shows, no driving, no hotels, etc. Sort of the "you have to pay to play" idea in my mind.

The other thing is seems, is that most people lately have only been offered the choice of Service Grade. CMP states that was also most of what they received. Every one of them has been rebuilt it would appear, so not sure why, with that said, one would not opt for the best of them anyway unless the extra $$$ are really an issue.

The "Million Dollar" question now seems to be how many, and when and if, they will release an additional 10,000 guns for the 2019 year, as all of them being sold currently (about 9,000) were the 2018 allocation.

It will also be very curious to see what exactly ends up on the auction too.

Oh, and if you have not seen this story, its a good read.

All really good points, Mike. Your remarks and a read of the article that you linked makes me want to buy one!

John

The CMP anticipated like 70,000 applications for the 10,000 guns in 2018. They got like 19,000 applications was all, so it was about a 50/50 deal. I suspect many, many people were put off by the application process, as it was way different than the M-1 Garand process, for sure.

Those who did not get them in 2018 will have a shot for the 2019 allocation, if the guns are allocated in 2019.

Yep...I joined an organization solely for the purpose of being eligible to buy one. Then I saw the application process, lotto, and then the "not really bargain" prices on the pieces and decided to pass. There were probably another 30k+ that felt the same way. :D

Too bad they weren't like that 10-15 years ago. They might still have some of that nice greek surplus 30-06 and an actual selection of M1 Garands and carbines. A lot of people made a lot of money off the CMP. I remember seeing gun show tables loaded with CMP rifles and ammo.

I followed the email announcements for the M1911/A1 from CMP, and having had 8 or so over the years, with 4 still in the collection, I decided to pass. I figured that most, if not all, would be rebuilt at least once, and that the service grade ones wouldn't be much different than what I had, not counting the 1943 Remington in original condition with the dulite blue finish. The paper work wouldn't be a bother and I don't know why anyone would worry about having their name on a list of pistols sold by the CMP unless they were paranoid (although, even though some people are paranoid doesn't mean someone isn't out to get them). I'd really like to see one on this board, and maybe at the next Raleigh show someone will have one on display. Just my penny's worth (inflation).
