WEAVER45 Posted April 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 17, 2019 This medal looks like a WWII period engraved medal but not 100% sure if this is engraved by the government . The name engraved on it was awarded to a veteran who served in the 45th inf div. Most engraved Army Purple Heart or Silver Star medals are not engraved with a rank in front of it. What do you all think?
Hermanus Posted April 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted April 18, 2019 Imo private engraving because of the added rank. Regards Herman
swabbie Posted April 18, 2019 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2019 There remains a possibility that the grade was an engraver's error. I personally have an obviously officially engraved (AGO) AM and DFC to a member of the ATC having "ATC" engraved instead of "AC". Engraving errors involving misspelling of the recipient's name are fairly common.
WEAVER45 Posted April 19, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted April 19, 2019 It would be interesting to know if anybody else had some world war II medals for the army engraved with the rank on it.
KASTAUFFER Posted April 19, 2019 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2019 The only WWII US Army medals officially hand engraved with rank are the MOH, Air Medal , DFC , and the Soldiers Medal if the recipient was AAF. Your SS is a nice WWII unofficially hand engraved medal. Kurt
