Hi guys, I thought I would share the Jump Jacket I picked up on this forum. This is my first jump jacket and the first one I have ever seen. I love the outline of where the name tape, 101st patch, and rank patches used to be. It will be a fun task to search the laundry number (H-3361). Im planning on making a Market Garden display with it so Im excited!

Always got time for a jump coat.

Wouldnt it be better to do a Normandy or Southern France display with an M42? I dare say only a handful of guys wore them for Market garden, I can't recall seeing any pics.

It could work for Market Garden, however it would be unit specific. I believe men of the 82nd Airborne Division, 504th PIR used the M42 jacket.

Very good point guys. I can’t make this jacket a 504th display since you can see where a 101st patch would be stitched on. Normandy theme it is!

Also, Im planning on researching the laundry number. What would be the best plan to try to identify the owner? I have never had a research project like this... I'd appreciate any advice!

I think this is a good start, but happy for others to jump in who know more.

2 pages matching your guys laundry number

Now you need someone to cross check the 101st roster for you, I believe this is the book they would use or similar.

luckily you've got the patch ghost to go off.

I would venture it is the material covering the mannequin torso that the jacket is being displayed on.

What is this grey(?) Wool Inside the collar ? Is it sewn ??

The grey is the mannequin peaking through. If you look at the last picture I put a piece of camouflage material over it to hide it.

As it isn't present anymore it could always be considered as being a replacement jacket. It doesn't necessarily have to be the 101st. But I catch your drift.

Nice jacket can't wait to see the finnished product!

Here is the gauze flag patch that was issued to 101 soldiers.

It is larger and harder to find that the smaller gauze patch.

Here is a picture of both types of gauze flag patch for size refrence.

The smaller flag came frome a 508th vet who lived in Camp Hill Pa.
