HEADQUARTERS 71ST INFANTRY DIVISION GENERAL ORDERS NUMBER 70 11 June 1945 AWARD OF THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL James B. Fox, 34530994, Staff Sergeant, Infantry, Company H, 5th Infantry, for heroic achievement against the enemy on 11 April, 1945, in the vicinity of Zulzfeld, Germany. While commanding his platoon and being aware enemy troops were known to be in the vicinity, Sergeant Fox discovered two German soldiers guarding an enemy tank, the platoon leader knifed the two enemy soldiers then fired a bazooka round into the tank, completely destroying it. Sergeant Fox’s heroic action exemplifies the traditions of the Armed Forces. James B. Fox was also awarded a Silver Star. HEADQUARTERS 71ST INFANTRY DIVISION GENERAL ORDERS NUMBER 10 24 April 1945 AWARD OF THE SILVER STAR MEDAL James B. Fox, 34530994, Staff Sergeant, Infantry, Company F, 5th Infantry, for gallantry in action against the enemy on 24 March1945, in the vicinity of Westheim, Germany. At 1700 hours, 24 March 1945, Sergeant Fox, without regard for his own safety, crawled over open terrain and under enemy fire to rescue two men regardless of his witnessing an aid man who was mortally wounded in such an attempt. While removing one wounded man to safety, Sergeant Fox discovered a friendly mortar section that had been separated from its unit. On his own initiative, Sergeant Fox set up and directed accurate fire on enemy emplacements. Entered military service from Jacksonville, Florida.
