mikie Posted April 15, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 15, 2019 I just finished "All the Gallant Men" by Donald Stratton, I highly recommend it. Apparently this is the first memoir by a pearl Harbor survivor. It's a unique perspective about what it was like to be there, and learning to live through living afterwards. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/pearl-harbor-75th-anniversary-survivor-donald-stratton-all-the-gallant-men-memoir/
Allan H. Posted April 17, 2019 Share #2 Posted April 17, 2019 I received this book from my daughter for Christmas in 2017. It is an OUTSTANDING read. In the book, Donald Stratton wasn't just a Pearl Harbor survivor, he was one of the few survivors of the USS Arizona! Stratton recounts being saved by a sailor on another ship named George. After years of championing a campaign to get George a medal for his heroism, the Navy finally gave George a Bronze Star- 76 years after the action. Reading Stratton's account, it is clear the Stratton believed that George deserved much more. Allan
29navy Posted April 17, 2019 Share #3 Posted April 17, 2019 This is also a good book about the same subject - Second to the last to leave the Arizona - he was in the same area as Stratton. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078MSHW2V/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=
