Unknown period engraved LoM not in Planchette Press

I have owned this Legion of Merit for several years and have never been able to attribute it to the recipient. This LoM appears to be period engraved with some fancy flourishes and 2 experts on this forum agree with that assessment, but it is not in the Planchette press Legion of Merit book, photographed below. I also looked through foreign recipients with no luck. I would appreciate any assistance in helping pin this one down. Thanks for looking.

Your soldier with the last name "GUY" was actually named "GAY." The medal engraving was misspelled. What a pity!
Legion of Merit
AWARDED FOR ACTIONS
DURING World War II
Department of the Army: General Orders No. 4 (February 7, 1951)
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, 20 July 1942, takes pleasure in presenting the Legion of Merit to Major (Cavalry), [then Captain] Laurance D. Gay, United States Army, for exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding services to the Government of the United States from September to November 1942.
Edit- I think I used some unfortunate wording that made it sound funny after I reread the post. I changed some verbiage to help clarity.
