Greetings all. Ive been looking at a lot of helmets and I found this one

https://www.ebay.com/itm/VIETNAM-ERA-US-M1-STEEL-POT-HELMET-LINER-COVER-1962-1965-AIRBORNE/362612895605

I thought some one may be interested.

Im not affiliated in any way with it. I was reading that sometimes its good to check carefully when people are offereing Vietnam era helmets because sometimes the helmet is much older. The weird part about this one is that the seller says he used to be 82nd airborne.

Anyhow... hes got a Kevlar cover over what looks to me to be a fron seam ww2 steel pot with a korean era liner??? with the nubs for the chin strap removed.

Id post pics but im running out of gas. It ends in the morning.

Is it a deal at the asking price?

Because is a front seam ww2 no vietnam pot.

The liner looks like a P65 Vietnam era liner which would have been producted without studs for the chinstrap however the webbing inside the liner isn‘t correct for that time period. The sweatband is also made from the wrong material which would make me suspect it’s not US issue.

The helmet is not worth that asking price.

Front helmet shells / liners were used decades after WW2 by the US government. It's extremely common to find them being used after WW2. Many Vietnam era sets in my collection are made using WW2 left over parts, liners / shells / sweatbands / napes. Just like this shell most times they were repainted.

The liner isn't Korean war era or even Vietnam era and it's not even a US webbing set up.

The US government used stock up from WW2 until they ran out. Helmets used during the Korean War were pretty much WW2 vintage helmet sets that sport a gloss repaint and sometimes updated chinstrap hardware.

If you look on Ebay at helmets you'll find that front seam shells with lots of layers are repaint without straps in poor condition are actually pretty common and not worth $60.

Thats ebay's "suggested item" not what the original helmet linked to was, auction closed already.

I see what Ebay did there...thanks for the clarification!
