The Rooster Posted April 11, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 11, 2019 Greetings, Today I purchased this lid M1. The seller told me the brand and it is front seam. Ive got an old family ww2 liner for an M1 I am going to put in it. I was wondering what all of you experts think about this old steel pot? And my liner is missing the leather chin strap and headband. And 1 hook for holding the chin strap. Can anyone recommend a good replacement for the strap and the headband and hook? Blueprint Posted April 12, 2019 Share #7 Posted April 12, 2019 Its a McCord. A Schlueter would have an S stamped near the heat number - if its not the case its an McCord. According to your heat number and swivel bails its going to be a late war produced shell. The paint looks also post-war due to the shining. But anyway, a nice pot! Congratulations! Will check the heat stamp when it comes in. My second helmet ww2. God help me, I want to collect more of these!! lol Looks like a ww2 liner???? I read that the webbing in a ww2 liner should be tan or kaki not green like this one. I was assuming ts an older liner due to the attachment points for the chin strap being there...? Thought maybe it was a ww2 liner that had been refurbished at some point? I was wondering when did they stop making liners with the nubs for the chinstrap attachments? My cold war helmet has a liner which does not have the nubs but has the catches for the nape strap attachment. Issued in 1982. When were the nubs for the chin straps fazed out? Burning Hazard Posted April 12, 2019 Share #13 Posted April 12, 2019 Shell is WWII production that was most likely used in the Korean War or later. Liners stopped having the nubs for leather liner chinstraps in very late 50's (aka Vietnam Liners) and those were issued until the M1 was replaced by the Kevlar helmet. Other than the fact that the liner is 50s, it's got no cork on the shell and a very much glossy/shiny paint. It's a very good cold war, Korean war M1 helmet example.
