rustbucket Posted April 4, 2019 Share #1 Posted April 4, 2019 Just bought this 79th 316 infantry helmet but has an odd symbol that I am not familiar with on the back- any thoughts as to what it is and if it is even period? The pain does look old to me but baffled by what it is. Thanks, Steve

Mr.Jerry Posted April 4, 2019 Share #4 Posted April 4, 2019 It looks like a WWI helmet that was painted and then reused in WWII as an Air raid warden helmet. Quite some history on that one! very cool!
gomorgan Posted April 4, 2019 Share #5 Posted April 4, 2019 I'll second Jerry remarks, and bet the 79th veteran wore this helmet in his duties during the time he was serving in civil defense..
Indexred Posted April 4, 2019 Share #6 Posted April 4, 2019 I wonder if the 79th vet wore his First World War uniform while performing his Civil Defense duties during WW2? That would have been a sight.
