Armored Collar Brass with Infantry

These were a pre-war insignia only and were not used during WWII. The armor branch insignia was just the tank. The infantry branch insignia was, and remains to this day, the crossed rifles.

To really understand this insignia, one must understand the tanks in the 1920's-'30's were considered to be for infantry support. This insignia shows this role. It was not until later that Armor became a separate branch. Armored Infantry units later wore Infantry insignia.
