Paul70 Posted March 27, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 27, 2019 I have a WWII uniform that came with WAC Officer BOS. I bought it on ebay with no additional information. When I looked up the name I found she was in the 156th General Hospital in England. She has a serial number of N-1072. Her arm or station was listed as PT, not ANC like the rest on the roster. Her MOS was 3?18 (looks like 3018). So, my question is: Are the WAC Athena insignia correct or should she have Nurse insignia and someone just put WWII Athenas on it? What is her MOS? what does PT stand for? Physical Therapist? I can't seem to find answers. Thanks, Paul
CombatEng44 Posted March 27, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 27, 2019 PT is physical therapist. I do believe there is a special insignia. I'll need to look at the PT uniform I have tomorrow.

cutiger83 Posted March 27, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 27, 2019 This uniform sounds interesting. Can you post pictures? This one seems a little confusing. The prefix of N on the dogtag is for the ANC not the WAC. From what I have found, early in the war the physical therapist were from the civilian sector not military. They became part of the Army in 1943 which probably coincided with the WAAC being given military status and becoming the WAC. When they became part of the Army, they adopted the same uniform as the ANC but as has been shown, their insignia had the PT on the caduceus. They did have enlisted ranks in the PT program which was different than the ANC. All nurses were officers. Even though they were part of the regular army, I have not been able to find an instance where they would have worn the Athena insignia. in one of my books, I did find a picture with a caption that says to note the enlisted PT insignia but the picture is too small to see it clearly. If I find out anything further, I will let you know. Kat
