The medical detachment above tended not only to the troops but also to their livestock.  A Veterinary soldier posted to Schofield Barracks sent this photograph to his sister with a note that the Army NCO's looked after the health of the mules more than the men.

Although many of his Hawaiian Department buddies sat out WWI on Oahu, in 1918 he was sent with an exceptional medical replacement draft to  the AEF in France where the medics were needed most.

Pointedcuffs

I recently traded for this 1911 Illistrated Review. It has some great pictures of uniform and headgear patterns. All soldiers are identified on the page under the pictures. I had to crop most of these pictures because of the way I took the picture. Here are a few I found interesting.

Thank you Salvage Sailor for sharing such varied and interesting photos, there are some great images with superb detail.

The photo just recently posted by Pointedcuffs showing cavalry with their 1905 experimental sabres is particularly special, thank you for sharing them.

Kurt.

Thanks Kurt (Dragoon), I appreciate the interest.

Pointedcuffs,

That is an extremely rare book authored by Louis Reed, published by the Hawaiian Gazette Company, Honolulu

I've been seeking one of these for decades.  Feel free to post more of it for us.

What an interesting thread! I just came across it. I collect/research items from the 32nd Infantry, so neat to see these early pictures from Hawaii.

Prior to the establishment of Camp Perry as the site of the National Rifle Matches, the participating marksmanship teams would gather in Sea Girt (or Seagirt) New Jersey in 1905.  This is the 1905 team from the Hawaiian National Guard.  The "photogravure" was taken on August 29th, 1905 and mailed to an address in San Francisco by one of the team, "The Hawaiian Team, We start back for S.F. about the 1st of Sept."
