RememberThe5thESB Posted March 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2019 How would invasion markings look for the 5th division? (Specifically someone in the 5th div, 28th reg, 3rd bat. I'm marking my repro M1 up with what my great great uncle probably would've had markings wise) I also was curious, depending on division are the outlines different? I dont really understand how these markings work exactly so any other info on that would be nice as well. Thank you! Blacksmith Posted March 22, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 22, 2019 By invasion marking, I assume you mean UNIS. If that is the case, you will need to know his company as well - HQ, G, H, or I company. With what youve provided, it would be a stenciled rectangle with an 83# inside of it. The # would be: 1 for HQ 2 for G Co. 3 for H Co. 4 for I Co. In some applications, there would be a fourth preceeding number - before the 8 in this example - that would be his rank. So, a PFC in G Co, 3rd Bn, 28th Marine Regiment would be a 1832 in a stenciled rectangle.

suwanneetrader Posted April 2, 2019 Share #7 Posted April 2, 2019 Glad to see that the examples in red has the 3rd Div as in a horizontal Diamond <>, which I have thought for years. The early books showed Ist Div and 3rd Divs switched, as in your top "white" examples. Richard
