I was researching the signed postal cover shown below from a Dec. 5-6, 1931 Air Show in Charlotte, NC. I found a lot of info about Al Williams and briefly summarize that here:
Major Al Williams
Birth: Jul. 26, 1896
Death: Jun. 15, 1958
Aviation Pioneer. In his military career he served in the United States Navy, United States Marine Corps and United States Army Air Corps. One of the pioneers of military aviation, he broke world air speed records during the 1920s while a test pilot for the Navy. In the 1930s, while serving in the Marines, he worked on developing new fighter tactics, and was responsible for the development of the technique of "diving bombing", a maneuver that would prove to be of immense value during the upcoming World War. In 1940 he advocated an independent Air Force, and was forced to resign from the Marines due to his outspoken views of the subject. When the United States entered World War II In 1941, he volunteered to served in the Army Air Corps, where he trained and demonstrated the techniques he developed to thousands of Army pilots.

But when I try to research Col. J. J. Grady all I can find is a few mentions of him in 1931 newspapers talking about Air Shows. Here are a few:

From an October 29, 1931 Charlotte NC newspaper:
"The committee Monday afternoon closed a contract with Col. J. J. Grady of the Charlotte airport to have four planes here on Armistice Day. Colonel Grady has had 22 years experience in aviation and has been an aviator in three different wars:The Balkan War, Mexican Border troubles, and the World War (WWI). He has been shot at time and again and was once sentenced to be shot at sunrise as a spy in Europe during the Balkan war....Col. Grady has never had an accident of a serious nature during his peace time flying. Has painted a picture of a lire on his plane. Col. Grady has flown almost all over the world. He made trips with Lindbergh and has wide experience."

Beaufort (NC) News July 2, 1931.
"One of the chief figures of the show will be Col. J. J. Grady, former member of the La Fayette Escadrille, a veteran of the World War, wars in the Balkans and Mexico."

Beaufort (NC) News Nov. 19, 1931.
"Col, J. J. Grady, world war ace"

I checked several rosters for the Lafayette Escadrille on line and none mention anyone named Grady. You would think that an early aviation pilot who flew in 3 wars would have some mention on the web. Does anyone know about this guy?
