rob30-06 Posted March 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 21, 2019 Guys, A buddy recently picked up a few unopened boxes of this Winchester M2 Ball and is wondering just what it is he got. It indicates it is ANM2. He is also interested in when this Ball ammo might have been made. thanks for the help Rob
pzjgr Posted March 21, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 21, 2019 It is just straight M2 Ball, the AN in the designation just means it was acceptable for use by both the Army and Navy... I don't know for sure on date, but I would guess late WWII....I am sure small arms ammo guys will have data on lot numbers and can tell you for sure. sundance Posted March 21, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 21, 2019 As a follow up to pzjgr's comments, was there 30-06 ammo produced that was not acceptable for use by both the Army and Navy?
pzjgr Posted March 21, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 21, 2019 As a follow up to pzjgr's comments, was there 30-06 ammo produced that was not acceptable for use by both the Army and Navy? I think the issue was that at one point they each had their own specs which may have been slightly different, heck it could have even been as small as primer composition... At some point they went with the AN designation to specifically show that whatever it was met both Army and Navy specifications...we are talking about the government here.... ;-) SAA is not my forte, but I beleive thats is the deal, someone who knows exactly will probably be along... pzjgr Posted March 21, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 21, 2019 Based on this link, it looks like this is early 50's production... https://www.ammogarand.com/3006-anm2-150gr-ball-winchester-wra-1952-us300621501952.html
