ClaptonIsGod Posted March 20, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 20, 2019 Have been seeing this on eBay the last few days. Seller claims he's not a helmet guy, makes no mention of the airborne aspects, and claims 1045F is a "low" heat stamp. Sorry if I'm outing anybody's secret bidding who was hoping this would go under the radar, but I wanted to get some discussion going on this as I don't see how it could be real. I want to believe, but this has to be too good to be true. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Vintage-WW2-Era-US-Army-Medic-Military-Helmet-M1-Front-Seam-Low-1045F/233170738120?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20180816085401%26meid%3D4e828f3312584f1cb260a856cf6c93ab%26pid%3D100970%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D233170738120%26itm%3D233170738120&_trksid=p2481888.c100970.m5481&_trkparms=pageci%3A08726b47-4b4a-11e9-bbd1-74dbd18058af%7Cparentrq%3A9cabbf9b1690ab452e73f9b7fffa2c27%7Ciid%3A1

No Quarter Posted March 20, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 20, 2019 Yeah she's a fake. At least the paint is, I believe the physical helmet shell is real. The white paint has been artificially aged brown. Same with the medic cross. Jacob

Thor996 Posted March 20, 2019 Share #9 Posted March 20, 2019 been around here long enough to suspect pretty much ANY painted helmet. Not even close to being an expert and I'd run from this at any price.
ClaptonIsGod Posted March 20, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted March 20, 2019 been around here long enough to suspect pretty much ANY painted helmet. Not even close to being an expert and I'd run from this at any price. I mean I'd buy it for $20 for fun, that's about it though. This guy thought he was being sneaky with the bad description. Or, maybe he did buy a fake at an estate sale.
USMC-RECON0321 Posted March 20, 2019 Share #11 Posted March 20, 2019 When a seller says he's "Not a helmet guy", leaves out the obvious details that bring the value, but refers to a "heat stamp number" as a heat stamp number, you know somethings going on. TheGrayGhost Posted March 21, 2019 Share #14 Posted March 21, 2019 Yikes! Looking at the other items this guy is selling, I don't doubt his story, he's clearly a picker with quite an eclectic inventory.
McDermut99 Posted March 21, 2019 Share #15 Posted March 21, 2019 This is one of the many things that make me glad I joined this forum. As early as five years ago if I came across this helmet at a sale or store I just might have fallen for it. Since then through reading all the threads I have come across about fake helmets I wouldn't touch this one with a twenty foot pole!
Justin Posted March 21, 2019 Share #16 Posted March 21, 2019 Seller most likely did some research on helmets before listing it and found the information online. Post lots of clear photos. A serious helmet collector would know its not good just by glancing. It someone shells out big bucks for a piss pot with clear photos and a straight forward description that's on them for their blissful ignorance and deep pockets.
