bobgee Posted March 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2019 Just acquired this great set from a fellow Forum member here in North Texas. They were purchased in Peiping, China in 1946 and the mug displays that information along with a nicely detailed Marine Corps emblem, Chinese dragons and his wife's name. The mug is accompanied by 4 cups, each approximately 5 inches tall embellished with the letter "E" on the side and a detailed Chinese dragon on the base. I believe they are constructed of pewter. There are no maker marks. The owner was a retired USMC Colonel who passed in 2010. He served in WWII at Okinawa, in Korea at the Chosin Reservoir and in Viet Nam where he commanded the 11th Marine Artillery Regiment. An interesting note in his obituary is that in 1954 he was assigned as a liaison officer with the French forces and made a visit to Dien Bien Phu after which he made a report on the potential success or failure of the French forces. Semper Fi! Bobgee
