Kilroy56 Posted March 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2019 Here is another set. Looks die struck. Some frosting remaining. Sterling mark incised. Needless to say , thoughts welcome...
LuftStalg1 Posted March 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2019 The tarnish looks a bit brown. Is that correct or is it an optical illusion? H2O2 creates a brown tarnish on sterling.
Costa Posted March 18, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 18, 2019 looks crude--- that sterling hallmark
Kilroy56 Posted March 18, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted March 18, 2019 The tarnish looks a bit brown. Appears darker in natural light. looks crude--- that sterling hallmark. You are correct but so do some original marks , don't they? What about the frosting?
The Rooster Posted March 19, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 19, 2019 Hi Kilroy 56 Whats it weigh? What are the measurements? Theres one on Bobs site but the sterling mark on that wing is hard or next to impossible to see. But I think I can make it out below pin left side? But I think its similar to yours? http://www.ww2wings.com/wings/usaaf/usaaftechnicalobserver.shtml 3rd wing from the top. What do you think of it? Kilroy56 Posted March 19, 2019 Author Share #6 Posted March 19, 2019 Hello Rooster , You are correct the 2 wings look pretty much alike. The set in my possession is 3.1" long and weights 20 g.
mghcal Posted March 20, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 20, 2019 These wings look fine to me. You'll see alot of pilot and aerial gunner graduation wings made by the same company. The remnants of paint is typical as well. Usually they do have a raised hallmark. Here is a pilot wing by the same manufacturer I believe.
