USAmedalfreak Posted March 18, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2019 Hello, wondering about this Colt. The frame looks WW1 but slide looks WW2? Also the thumb safety is that post war or replica? Could the Colt 1911 & 1911a1 reissue guns [10 years ago or so] and parts interchange with Originals? Best pics I have now, bluing not parkerized. Thanks for help. doyler Posted March 18, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 18, 2019 There are aresenal reworks that may incorporate both 1911 and 1911a1 components but with out more pictures and information of markings on the frame, slide etc its not easy to answer. doyler Posted March 18, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2019 It does appear to have a WW2 slide release lever used on a Remington Rand or Ithaca production. The Levers were checkered and not grooved/serrated for the early Colts and the Colt pattern was also milled on the underside.I would say the same for the safety. It should be checkered not serrated.Serrated are found some what late production on Rem Rand and Ithaca There are also specifics of the barrel, trigger etc.
digi-shots Posted March 18, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2019 Looks like a Springfield eagle head on the left side of the frame, right behind the trigger guard...1918 production
digi-shots Posted March 18, 2019 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2019 Doyler gave some good advise.. might be an arsenal rebuild.. or maybe a mix-master by whoever has previously owned the gun. The frame appears to be a 1918 production (UNITED STATES PROPERTY stamping on left side, June 1918 or prior); looks like a Springfield Eagle Head stamping on the left side of the frame behind the trigger guard - unless that's a scratch. The grips are post WWI - wood transitional grips; and the short trigger is also post WWI.
digi-shots Posted March 18, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 18, 2019 One more thing.... I do not see any stamping on the left side of the slide... should say MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY
kwill Posted March 18, 2019 Share #8 Posted March 18, 2019 That's not an arsenal rework...wrong stocks, wrong barrel, wrong slide stop, modern day thumb safety, etc. It's just a collection of parts, some not USGI.
Costa Posted March 18, 2019 Share #9 Posted March 18, 2019 better pictures and break it down to see parts
Costa Posted March 18, 2019 Share #10 Posted March 18, 2019 if it is a Frankenstein put together, its a shooter that is for the right price.
USAmedalfreak Posted March 18, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted March 18, 2019 Thanks, I try and get better pics before buying. 1911 war originals are hard to find up here so we have to pay more and get less then the USA folk. Did I mentioned it looks to be reblued, did the arsenal rebuild do that or post war?
USAmedalfreak Posted March 22, 2019 Author Share #12 Posted March 22, 2019 Some more pics. It looks really good to me. ww1 frame looks very good and is black blued original. ww2 slide is parked also good condition might be original. The rest I don't know who made them or when. I guess yes a mixmaster.Barrel has a S and a P, wood grips, no markings on mag.Never gone past a field strip with a war Colt, should I?ThksWayne
