Ive been looking for a b-3 101st patch and a 502nd pocket patch. I believe the 502nd and 17th are british made. Congrats to the buyer if you are a member!

Yep there were some nice ones on there alright...probably a nice surprise for the seller!

Out of curiosity...what do the B3 101st patches typically sell for?

I have no clue how much b-3s sell for, Id also like to know. If someone had one for sale Id be willing to pay $5-700. Ive been looking for one for more than a year now.

There has been two jackets that sold for over $2000. This one sold for $300 more than the earlier jacket. Which was the better buy or the one that had the rarer patches. Here is the other jacket.

That was fun to watch. I always have to wonder when people say this hobby is dying. Seems very much alive and well to me.

I wasn't too concerned about the "better buy". This jacket had a lot of British made patches and those are what I collect. I did a lot of homework on these patches and $2900 was all I could come up with. I did have fun researching these patches. Although I didn't win the auction I did get to come out with a lot more knowledge!

For most on the forum 2900 dollars is a good sum and you want to see that what you are paying is a fair price. Comparing the two jackets unless I missed something the jacket that started the post had 5 rare or desireable patches, they are the 101st,17th,pathfinder ,502, and inf glider cap badge. The other jacket had 4 patches the 746th,674th,PR Watchman, and Japanese Language School. When you determine you want such a jacket do you just value the "prize "patches and think of the others as gravy or do you give them an actual value per patch? The difference between the two jackets was $300. The big question is whether the 502 is the British made variety and also value of the 101st and the 17th if British or German. Going by the money spent think the 502 jacket was the better buy and especially if it turns out to be British made. Not criticizing the buyers in any way but trying to help the forum members in evaluating when or what to purchase.

Yeah I saw that. He has the 502nd starting at $3500  I hope he didn't use scissors on that pathfinder patch.

Sad another cut up item

I second this. Its too bad that clothing like this and patch blankets as well are cut up. I know theres a business side to the hobby, but its a shame to loose the complete piece.

This jacket would have made a great display piece..i can see cutting up a patch blanket but man this jacket would be cool just the way it is..of course im only a helmet collector so i dont know how the patch collecting world is...it was fun to watch that auction and that pathfinder was killer...mike

BILL THE PATCH

I agree I don't like cutting up a GOOD patch blankets, but some you just don't have a choice.

He has the 502 at $3500,the pathfinder at $700 and the 45th at $400. Chain stitch 517th at discount now of $5000 was originally priced at 6500. Take your pick are these prices from Fantasyland,Disney Land or Neverland?

Well I hope this isnt the same pathfinder patch. I dont want to say he trimmed it without evidence of it being the same patch. Heres the one pathfinder85 has listed:

True

I watched a blanket put together by a nurse being parted out recently.I had seen it on a estate sale.contacted the seller and it was obvious they didnt have it priced. They kept wnating an offer.I made the offer so basically priced it for them and it appears they took a little over instead of making th effort to let me counter.I pretty much knew the out come and the buyer who would be.Saw it couple month later surface at a show. One comment I hear was "there is only one patch on their worth anything"..really? There was more banter and the person had an intrested buyer who was first I guess. The blanket was sold a handful of patches were removed and it was resold. In less than 36 hours a piece of intresting history that had lasted 70 years was cut up.It then moved to another seller.More were cut off and sold on ebay. Then the balance of what was left on the blanket was sold intact.Yes I tried to bid on it as well when on ebay.

I know this is always a sensitive topic and its a buyers right to do as they see fit.But the main issue is there wasnt one patch on that blanket that couldnt have been purchased seperately. Not one all for the most part were standard Ww2 common patches and in fact the patch that was "the only one of value" is listed on a site that can be bought for $250.So in patch land not a super rare patch and if you want one why cut it off a blanket.Just go to the site and buy one. There is the topic of preservation and how the blankets are hard to keep etc.I get it but if people are interested in preservation and honoring the veteran than why cut up something the veteran took great pride in making?

As stated the blanket I saw was made by a nurse. It was documentable as there was a from the estate. She had been a Nurse in WW2.Had collected these and sewn them to a blanket. She was so proud of this she kept it for 70 plus years until her death and sale of it on the estate. Then in less than 36 hours after it came to market it was pieced out.Just a little disappointing(and discusting) to me.

Not sure what the fuss is about the pathfinder being trimmed. It was trimmed when it was placed on the jacket since it was originally a RECTANGLE in shape. The question of whether the jacket should have been cut up is a legit question but we know there are two sides atleast to this question that have valid points. The real question is now that we know it was bought to resell the parts, was it a good buy for this purpose? Judging from response from forum I would guess not.
