USMC-RECON0321 Posted March 13, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 13, 2019 Hello, USMF Member "Sparty On", picked these up for me today at an estate sale in Lansing Michigan (Thanks Mike). I was thinking they would be WWI, but I'm pretty sure I identified them to: "William A. Hill", Service number 06918840, He was born Jan 3rd 1922, but NARA shows he entered the Army in Dec 6th 1945 as a Tech-4, Residence County - Gogebic Michigan. So I'm thinking this may actually be a re-enlistment after the war into the regular Army? I found his Obituary that shows he passed in 2011 and that he served 20 years in the Army. His headstone shows he served in both WWII and Korea and retired as a Captain. The obituary also mentions he became a Reverend later in life and he and his wife moved to Lansing MI. in 1992. The service number research shows 6918840 would've been issued between 1919 and 1940, would that be correct? I'm surprised with 20 years in the service, I can't find more on him? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Troy

USMC-RECON0321 Posted March 13, 2019 Author Share #4 Posted March 13, 2019 I came across simular. I was told they date mid 20's to pre war. That's what I'm finding, his service number would fall between 1919 to 1940, but his NARA file only shows him enlisting Dec 1945, but as a Tech 4. He was born in 1922, so I'm thinking the NARA file is showing his re-enlistment into the Reg Army after the war and he stayed in 20 years according to his Obit. Retired as a Capt. I need to renew some of my research accounts to get more on him.
