mds308 Posted March 7, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 7, 2019 Got a Type-F shipboard dial telephone in trade and was wondering of this color was considered Thayer blue? Was Thayer blue ever used on a ships interior? The Type F telephone was not weather proof. Thanks for the help.
Salvage Sailor Posted March 7, 2019 Share #2 Posted March 7, 2019 It looks like the "blue death" primer we used on aluminum surfaces. We used many now banned or controlled paints and primers including red lead, blue death, zinc chromate, etc.....
mds308 Posted March 7, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted March 7, 2019 That's funny. If I'm not mistaken, during my time in the USCG I remember using Green Death and Red Lead on steel. This was in the late 1980s. The primer we used on aluminum was yellow in color. I don't remember what it was called.
