vintageproductions Posted December 20, 2008 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2008 Well, I don't normally post items in the new finds section, but I thought this group was definately cool enough to put here. All named to a Spec. 4 James Besco. There is his Presidential Serrvice badge that is numbered 326. His document for his service, noting badge number 326, for service with LBJ. Then a killer slim line Zippo. On the front is the Presidential shield, factory engraved. On the reverse is EUROPEAN TRIP OF PRESIDENT KENNEDY JUNE 1963. I believe this is the trip where JFK made his famous Berlin Visit. Here is the badge first:

vintageproductions Posted December 20, 2008 Author Share #5 Posted December 20, 2008 Bob, thanks, that is definately a great article. Plus seeing he was from Torrance, this came out of a flea market years ago in the South Bay area, according to the collector who brought it in. Presidentialserver Posted December 22, 2008 Share #6 Posted December 22, 2008 HI, Very nice PSB and certificate. I could not read the date on the certificate but if the date is September 1, 1964 you are the pround owner of a PSB the first day of issue. The White House Service Badge was "retired" the end of August and the first PSBs were issued September 1, 1964. I own a PSB numbered 194 that was issued on September 1, 1964. I suspect your badge was issued on the same day. Very nice find and also very unusual to have the badge and the cooresponding PSB certificate. vintageproductions Posted December 23, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted December 23, 2008 Thank you for the info. Had to wait until I left the shop today to get home and check the date. Yes, it is dated 1 September 1964.
Bob Hudson Posted December 23, 2008 Share #8 Posted December 23, 2008 I sold a Presidential Service Badge two years ago. These don't sell very often and I had no idea of "market value," so I ended up selling it for a fixed price somewhere below $300. Two weeks after I sold it, I found through Google an ebay sale a couple months before where one went for $650! These are big, heavy pieces and rather impressive in person. Presidentialserver Posted January 8, 2009 Share #10 Posted January 8, 2009 Thank you for the info. Had to wait until I left the shop today to get home and check the date. Yes, it is dated 1 September 1964. Hi again, To make your set complete, look for the lapel pin which is a smller version of the Presidential Service Badge. The early lapel pins have a screw type of back as opposed to the newer ones that have a push pin back. All in all a very nice find. I was fortunate to find a PSB numbered 194 with the certificate also numbered 194 and the lapel pin to make a complete set.
