dskjl Posted March 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 2, 2019 Haven't read through all of the material yet but thought i would share it none the less. Lots of letters home and lots of correspondents from the Brother to the war department etc... after his death. His life insurance policy is even with the paperwork. RustyCanteen Posted March 2, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 2, 2019 Interesting archive, to a man who sadly had his life cut short at the young age of 29. RIP and Thank you 1st Lt. It looks like the headstone photo you have, is the one in the 'Punchbowl' on Oahu: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/106584927/val-cassels His family must have placed a "remembrance" stone at their local cemetery too. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/25349146/val-cassels

Dave Posted April 5, 2019 Share #9 Posted April 5, 2019 The engraving on the Purple Heart is not official government engraving, so it may have been a replacement for a lost original Purple Heart at some point. A poignant group!
dskjl Posted April 5, 2019 Author Share #10 Posted April 5, 2019 Dave, I agree, a replacement would be my bet. Vintage PH with later engraving. Very cool group nonetheless. The docs, pic, and the letters are amazing.
