Honestly, the more I look at it, the more I’d like to see a clear close-up of the blade markings. I’m thinking that knife may not go with that sheath...

From the picture it appears to have lost a high percentage of its finish. If I had seen such an example on a table with that price tag, I doubt I'd even take the time to try talking the seller down to what I would have been willing to pay.

I think It is an early blued blade transition KA-BAR, first variation after the red spacers, although there is not much blue left. A pretty rare knife. Bill Walters book page 405, first and second knife.

I think Don is right. The slightly shorter and slightly deeper fuller are the give-aways. Sometimes it's hard to show the true blueing in a pic. Possibly the buyer shot crap or perhaps he asked the seller for details or better pics.
