tarheel1 Posted February 21, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 21, 2019 Hello, I was hoping to get some help on these two Pre-WWII USMC Shooting Medals. They are dated 1940 & 1941 and are named to "C.W. Henley". They are also marked "Blackington" on the back. I searched the forum and seem to only be able to find ones from the 1950's. I am trying to figure out how to upload pictures. Any information about the medals and even the Marine himself would be most appreciated. Thank you in advance! TH1

Brig Posted February 22, 2019 Share #5 Posted February 22, 2019 Similar to the ones you see on the forum from the late 40s, 50s and 60s...scores of competitions were held where these types of private purchase Blackintons were awarded...WWII interrupted the newly started trend, which is why you see very few dated 40-41, and then you don't start to see them again until 47. These are a great, affordable little niche with lots of variety. I used to own several dozen, but sold the entire collection to another forum member a few years ago
teufelhunde.ret Posted February 22, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 22, 2019 These were very widely used in reserves competition for decades.
