M1Garandy Posted February 20, 2019 Share #27 Posted February 20, 2019 Do I see a staple in the sling keeper? I wonder if you have a USMC M1907 sling there. The color looks right for the examples I have seen. More on USMC M1907 slings: http://forums.thecmp.org/showthread.php?t=159885
Broadsword_7 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Share #28 Posted February 21, 2019 Boy, there are some good eyes out there! The keepers are mis-matched, though you couldn't tell until you looked at the back.
Broadsword_7 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Share #29 Posted February 21, 2019 I've searched the sling thoroughly, looking for markings but found none.
M1Garandy Posted February 21, 2019 Share #30 Posted February 21, 2019 I don't believe USMC slings were marked, but the unique pattern of holes is a dead give away, even if the keepers are missing.
Broadsword_7 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Share #31 Posted February 21, 2019 OK, I see what you are referring to now. Is this a USMC sling? Thanks.
Broadsword_7 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Share #32 Posted February 21, 2019 This is a MCRD photo I have. You can plainly see this sling in the photo (red arrow).

Broadsword_7 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Share #34 Posted February 21, 2019 Another photo out of my collection. The whole front row has these slings.
Broadsword_7 Posted February 21, 2019 Author Share #35 Posted February 21, 2019 The recruit on the left has 3 holes in his sling instead of 4!
M1Garandy Posted February 22, 2019 Share #36 Posted February 22, 2019 OK, I see what you are referring to now. Is this a USMC sling? Thanks. Sure looks like it. They are around, but not common, at least in my area. More expensive than a comparable condition standard GI M1907 as well if the seller know what they have. Broadsword_7 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Share #37 Posted February 22, 2019 I have to admit, I pretty much overlooked the sling. The guy I got the rifle from obviously had no idea what it was either. Thank you for pointing this out!
Broadsword_7 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Share #38 Posted February 22, 2019 While on the subject of slings, here is a similar sling with only one hook (MCRD photo, Plt.238, 1944)
Broadsword_7 Posted February 23, 2019 Author Share #39 Posted February 23, 2019 This photo shows the stapled keeper (MCRD photo, 203rd Plt., 1943).
