Ok. So I know the earliest version of the Model 1839 oval US buckle was produced with bent over wire attachment hooks. I found this in an antique shop here in Pa recently for a very cheap price. I'm not sure if it is a period buckle or an early repro. The one attachment hook is gone and you can see a little bit of rust where it broke so I think it's been gone for a long time. I am perplexed by the other attachment hook with the rounded end. Never seen anything like it and have not been able to locate another like it in any of my buckle books. What do you guys think? Good? Bannerman's piece? Fantasy piece? Skin with replaced lead and hooks?

Thanks for your help.

Paul
