Replacement medals

Trying to get my grandfathers records and replacement medals. NARA seems busy so I figure I might get a quicker response here. I'm at my grandmother's half the week and have access to all of his documents. I recently uncovered his separation papers. One seems to be on the back of his honorable discharge certificate. Details his duties, enlistment, weapon qualifications, where he served, what he did, and what he was issued. The other is a NAVMC 78-PD and lists his MOS, pay grade, enlistment dates, addresses, and occupation and education history as well as planned occupation after service duties. The last thing I found was NAVMC 112-PD which details "satisfactory service" on the back and lists my grandfathers name. The front is a certificate with iconic ww2 images(iwo jima flag rising), ships, and landing craft on the borders that certifies my grandfather as completing honorable satisfactory service in WW2. It lists his enlistment/discharge dates and the base he was discharged from. At this point, I no longer need his DD form 214 because I think one of these is the equivalent. I just want his medals. Do I need to ask my annoying uncle for my poppies' death certificate? He took it from my grandmother who would have gladly given it to me to make a copy. Random question- will I receive his rifle expert badge when I get his duplicate awards? Thank you. Any tips are welcome and appreciated.

Take what you have, go to your local courthouse, get a copy of his death certificate from the Recorder, then find the VA Service Officer and ask him to help you complete the paperwork for your Grandfather's replacement medals.

I found his honorable discharge and separation papers as well has his DC, so I just faxed those things with the NOK signature release form this morning. It should just be a waiting game now. Really glad I did it.

You will not get any qualifacation badges or foriegn awards, ex. Croix de guerre or Phillipine liberation medal. :)

Ty for the information.That's understandable.
