Please, no comments on the quality of the weapon (unless you actually fired on in wartime conditions)

But in going over some WW1 records I find that The US either was working on, or produced a "snap-hook" that fit on the standard leather sling to help hold up the Chauchat in walking fire.

The French had a simple triangular ring that fit on a hook for this I think.

But I can't find anyone that has, or has seen such a snap hook. Anyone out here seen such a beast?

Carter Rila had some outstanding records on web gear and accessories made for this weapon. It was posted on a now dead military forum. As far as I know he never posted it anywhere else or never published it. Hopefully some of the members here that were on the old forum saved the info and this will turn on a light bulb for them.
