268th C.A. Posted February 5, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 5, 2019 My understanding was it was an extra canteen to be carried in the pack ?? But USARV72 knows more than me when it comes to this stuff.
MattS Posted February 5, 2019 Share #4 Posted February 5, 2019 I'm not sure what they were designed for, but they are usually about $5 whenever I see them.

atb Posted February 5, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 5, 2019 I have a vague memory of reading that these canteens were designed to fit into one of the pockets of a pilot's flight suit.
milsurp_scout_14 Posted February 6, 2019 Share #7 Posted February 6, 2019 I'm not sure when these started to be made/used, but they've been in various lots of gear I've run across over the years. These are 1 liter canteens, supposedly made by a government contractor. These were never issue to the US military...more of a PX/private purchase item. Plus they're sold by various surplus stores. Only really good for use in packs, as there's no other way to carry them.

Need Scotts book that son has, cant remember but IIRC there is a similar smaller canteen in a late 70’s 80’s kit? Sure someone here can look it up.
