6th.MG.BN Posted February 2, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 2, 2019 Has anyone ever seen this map before? It was produced like a blue print with white lettering. Map measures 15-1/4"x 19-1/2". Title of the map is "THE NATIONALIST ARMIES, OF THE, REPUBLIC OF CHINA, DURING, THE NORTHERN EXPEDITION, 1926-1928". Box in lower right hand corner reads "FOURTH REGIMENT INTELLIGENCE OFFICE, INTELLIGENCE OFFICER----1ST.LT. E.F. CARLSON, DRAFTSMEN- W.T. HOLMQUIST, DATED 10-24-28, USMC". I was wondering if this would have been drawn up as an intelligence report or study aid?

Dirk Posted February 3, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 3, 2019 Nice map! Although I have not seen this particular map I have seen a number of others in the same style...the 4th had a cartography section with the Intel Section. It would have been produced to augment daily situation reports the 4th was drafting as they tracked the fighting and movement associated with Northern Expedition. Many of these reports are in the National Archives. And I think the Marines have one in their collection covering their positions on the Soochow. Are these common to find on the loose? Thanks again, Ken
Dirk Posted February 3, 2019 Share #10 Posted February 3, 2019 Ken these are uncommon. I have seen a few in archives and very rarely on eBay.

Semper Fi = Bobgee Bigger, I've owned this piece since 2009, if memory serves me correct. Seeing 1st. Lt. E.F. Carlson's name on it was what drew to it.
