kkevin2004 Posted January 29, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 29, 2019 Hi all! Any ideas on the engraving style? My guess is Vietnam because of the font and three lines but may be wrong. Thanks in advance!
smwinter207 Posted January 29, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 29, 2019 The font looks Vietnam era. The only thing I'm not crazy about is a three line engraving. Ive seen many fakes with the three lines. And I own only two line versions with the initial at the end of the first name.
MWalsh Posted January 29, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 29, 2019 I personally think the three line engraving is fine. Over the years I have had it on at least two Purple Heart medals I have owned, both were replacement medals to WW2 veterans. I was never able to narrow down when exactly it was used though, I kind of suspected probably 1980s. The medals I had were not ones I ever got with research, they were sort of out of the woodwork, and never purported to be from anyone from a higher octane unit or anything like that either. It is not seen as often as other styles though, not in my experience, which is what I think makes people leery of it.
Dave Posted January 29, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 29, 2019 I think it looks fine. I have no issue with it.
Dave Posted January 29, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 29, 2019 Is this from the Air Force casualty with that name? Air Force engraving did change over time during Vietnam and I would be very comfortable with this if that's the case as it fits known engraving styles. kkevin2004 Posted January 29, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted January 29, 2019 Dave, there is an AF casualty that has that name. Still trying to do some research to find if he was awarded Silver Star. Thanks to all for the quick response!
