Nice M1A1! M1 & M1A1 has their serial numbers rolled marked on the receiver and the matching number on the frame near the trigger guard. It appears that yours is not matching which was a common occurrence when the gun was rebuilt. Your gun does not have the original finish and has been parkerized. Original finish from the factory was DuLite blue-black. Your receiver is marked AOC for Auto Ordinance Corporation. Your frame appears to be S marked for Savage. Savage made frames will be marked Full Auto on 2 lines. AOC frames will have Full Auto on 1 line. Your pictures don't show the markings. As far as the sight goes an M1A1 should have a protected one so yours may have been changed. I see you have the foregrip band which was utilized to keep the the wooden foregrip from falling off when the rivited-grip mount broke.

I strongly suggest you buy a copy of Frank Iannamico's book, "American Thunder" It a awesome reference book and will answer all your questions.
