gap Posted January 28, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 28, 2019 Picked up this post-WW2 McCord shell and CAPAC 1951/1952 liner at a local gun show. Shell has OD hardware and heat lot number M-145A. The liner is marked with a 2nd Army decal and has the remnants of a WW2 leather chinstrap w/United Carr rivet. Interestingly, the A washer are OD brass? Nape strap is dated 1953. Can't read the date on the head band but it has an unsewn tail and judging by the crustiness is probably period appropriate as well. Enjoy! huntssurplus Posted January 28, 2019 Share #10 Posted January 28, 2019 I like this one! Love the OD painted chinstrap buckles! I've been looking for one of these Korean War made helmets. Love that liner too, people don't pay enough attention to those 50's era decal liners. Hunt

gap Posted February 14, 2019 Author Share #12 Posted February 14, 2019 Nape strap is actually 1952 dated. 1953 is part of the stock number. Wish I could read the date on the sweat band!
JesseJames Posted February 15, 2019 Share #13 Posted February 15, 2019 Really nice looking. I've been seeing a lot of m1 decals for sale on eBay. They look like those temporary tattoos. How do you distinguish from fakes?
patches Posted February 15, 2019 Share #14 Posted February 15, 2019 Really nice looking. I've been seeing a lot of m1 decals for sale on eBay. They look like those temporary tattoos. How do you distinguish from fakes? I guess it has to be experience, unless there glaringly new looking, having seen originals a lot on the shells and liners, and seeing unused ones, original unused ones in example will generally have slight yellowing to them but not always, and even in excellent condition they might have a slight curling to them. New made ones no doubt have a more plastic content, while 50s and 60s are like vintage scale model tank and airplane decals. Not wanting to highjack this topic, if you could start a topic in this helmets forum with ones you have seen so far would be cool.
