Army Horse Bridle/Tack

A road I normally take home from work was flooded out and during my detour I stumbled on a small antique shop. Been a long time since I've found anything good in an antique shop, but was surprised to find this hanging on a hook.

Seems to be all original, and must have been well cared for back in the day as the leather is still rather supple. Has two three-prongs US decorations on the sides (blinders?). However, the rosettes are not the US or eagle crests I would expect, but plain flat silver pieces...very old, and have been there for a long time...

Searching the forum I haven't been able to find this exact piece of kit. Can anyone tell me more about it?

My wife an I are both horse drivers and are collectors of cavalry equipment.

What you have is a pair of Mule bridle cheekpieces from the 1909 ambulance/express wagon harness that somebody added pieces to and then used as a bridle for a mule.

The blinkers/cheekpieces are the only army parts I can see on the piece, and they've had the spots added for decoration at some time.

The US brasses and blinkers are original army issue parts, but the crownpiece, browband, throatlatch, overcheck, rosettes, reins, and bit are all cobbled together.

Well that's disappointing...

Thanks for the info

Sorry about that, Horses and Mules don't change so their equipment can look the same from one century to the next.

If it helps I'm clueless about Marine Corps items.
