shifty5580 Posted January 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2019 Dear, I find this picture in a box in Belgium. I try to find who is this 101st airborne officer. The picture is taken after ww2 in Bastogne, maybe in year 1945-1950? Thanks a lot Bertrand

Steve B. Posted January 24, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 24, 2019 Generals don't wear branch of service insignia. This officer looks like he has bot U.S. insignia on his upper lapels, and branch of service insignia on his lower lapel.
yp221 Posted January 24, 2019 Share #6 Posted January 24, 2019 This photo is from about 1950 when McAuliffe was the Chief Chemical Officer of the Chemical Corps. Note the Chemical Corps insignia on his lapel.

Simon Lerenfort Posted January 25, 2019 Share #9 Posted January 25, 2019 Great photo to find Bertrand. Of course he was in Bastogne for the dedication of the Mardasson memorial.
Steve B. Posted January 25, 2019 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2019 Interesting. Perhaps I am thinking of modern regs, or perhaps he didn't care about the regs. It seems the officer on the far right in the second photo is not wearing BOS insignia, so I'm at a loss.

Allan H. Posted January 26, 2019 Share #12 Posted January 26, 2019 I'll help to clear the confusion here. USUALLY, general officers did not wear branch insignia however, General Mc Auliffe was the Branch Chief for the Chemical Corps. As such, he would have worn branch of service insignia for the Chemical Corps. Allan
