You're welcome. Yes, I am in good ole' Okla City. If you don't mind me asking, how do you know the knife was made by Bud Phaver in Okla City? Is the name somewhere on the knife or sheath? If so, can you post a pic of that? Thanks, and that's a great knife. Love it!

Sorry - I misspelled his name - its Fhaver.

See Wright pg 66 for another example. His knuckle knives usually had this profile. He did make other than knucks. Cant remember from where I know this, but I believe he worked in the government and mounted examples of his knives above his workplace to show what he could make.

I have seen a couple others similar, including one with a large scimitar style blade.

Oh, ok. Yes, now that is familiar. Here's a label from the Roger Ballard collection.

What's weird is when I tried to look up that name, I couldn't find anything. On Find-A-Grave, I did just a search of the last name Fhaver only and no hits. On FamilySearch.org (similar to Ancestry.com) I did a search with just the last name Fhaver and only came up with a total of 6 hits, none of which would've had the name Bud tied to it or that lived anywhere near Okla City. I searched the Oklahoma County Registrar of Deeds website for that last name and came up with nothing. I also searched the Daily Oklahoman Newspaper archives for that last name and nothing. The only thing I could find regarding "Bud Fhaver" seems to be the label that Roger Ballard created. Now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Bud Fhaver didn't exist or that someone at Tinker Air Force Base didn't create those knives, but I wonder if someone out there has actual proof that a man with this name actually existed, lived in Oklahoma City, worked at TInker, and made these type knives. Since Richard J. "Dickie" Moore did in fact live in Oklahoma City as indicated by proof and seems to have possessed one of the knives attributed to Bud Fhaver, one would think Bud actually existed. But like I said, does anyone out there have actual proof that he did? I couldn't find anything. One thing's for sure, someone made those knives and Richard J. Moore had one of them.

Wonder if Roger misspelled the name?. Maybe a soundex search? I'll take mine to SoS and ask him.

I used to own the one with the striped handle (there was another smaller one with it that I found independently).

Is that yours with the scimitar blade? I know where another one is, but guy doesn't to sell it.

I don't know. Also, since "Bud" was in quotes on Roger's label, it makes me think that maybe Bud is a nickname for something. I don't know Roger Ballard but I guess you do since you said you'll take yours to SoS and ask him. If you find out anything, please post it on here. I'd be interested in what Roger has to say.

I'm just trying to find out if a person at Tinker AFB actually made these (which I believe someone did) and what his actual name is. If he did, there should be some record of him. Also, if he made that many knives that he would display them in his work area for soldiers could order one, you would think there'd be more information about him available.

No, that's not mine with the scimitar blade. I just found the pic when searching for "Bud Fhaver" on Google Images.

Tonight I took some time and looked through a WWII Tinker Field book (like a yearbook) which took some time and didn't see anyone with a name even similar or close to Bud Fhaver in it. Of course, that doesn't mean he wasn't there, but that's another lead checked that yielded negative results.

Hi siclfde,

I was wondering if you were able to contact Roger at the SOS to ask him about "Bud" Fhaver? If so, were you able to find out anything more about the name Fhaver or the knives he made?

Thanks...Matt
