Misfit 45 Posted January 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 19, 2019 Hi Folks, I saw this on ebay. After I picked up my jaw from the keyboard, I reviewed all the pictures. The blade is worn and old, I but didn't see any red flags. Then I read the description in which the seller said the blade was welded and he tried to take clear photos of the area. He believes that it was a cut down and re-welded common Krag. The weld is obvious only if you are looking for it. To me, it just looked like a well worn blade with staining and a little pitting. I commend the seller for his honesty. Misfit 45 Posted January 19, 2019 Author Share #2 Posted January 19, 2019 Here's the blade. Note the added feature of the long false edge, just like the original.
sundance Posted January 19, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 19, 2019 I was not familiar with that bayo - learn something new every day. Great item.
SKIPH Posted January 19, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 19, 2019 WOW! Talk about rare! If the seller had said anything about being welded, I wouldn't have caught it either. But, I don't think it's a cut down, due to the top edge. The other factor is the scabbard, what are the chances of a loose cadet scabbard laying around? I don't know, it all kinda looks legit to me. At least the seller is honest about the weld. What the seller states, is "he believes it is a weld", it might not be. Who knows? I think this is the first cadet Krag bayonet that I can recall ever seeing. Thanks for showing Marv. SKIP

SKIP I've seen four or five cadet scabbards floating around loose in the past 6 months, usually the seller is trying to get $250-$300 but they don't sell. Dan the Krag Man at the Raleigh Militaria show has been carrying one around for a couple of years now. As for the weld, when I looked at the bayonet I could see indications that would have me questioning whether this is a legitimate cadet bayonet. Welded Krag bayonets are not uncommon. If I were to buy this I would make sure I had a 14-day return period; I wouldn't trust ebay's return policy because the seller stated that he believes this to be a welded bayonet, which I suspect it is. Misfit 45 Posted January 20, 2019 Author Share #7 Posted January 20, 2019 Hi, If you want to buy an original 1895 Krag Cadet bayonet with scabbard (I think there were three versions of the scabbard), here's the link. https://www.jjmilitaryantiques.com/Home.aspx/Catdet/19917?nm=springfield-krag-cadet-rifle-knife-bayonet-w-s&category=saberbayus&bread_last=%2FHome.aspx%2FCatpage%2Fsaberbayus%3Fpsize%3D10%26page%3D2%26sortseq%3DName&category_desc=Bayonets%20Saber%20%26%20Knife%20%20US#.XESYr7x7mUk Marv
