TheMariner Posted January 16, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 16, 2019 I figured you guys might enjoy seeing this medal I recently acquired for what I feel was a steal in auction! I could only find 2 other examples of this medal one is owned by a fellow forum member and the other appears to be in the hands of a church group so safe to say they are fairly rare! This one was award to Rev J.H Reents, Reents was one of the founding members of the Lutheran Church in Filley, Nebraska in 1931. Interestingly most of the congregants were actually of German Decent. Reents was paid $25 dollars a month for his service as the pastor! In 1940 before the war even started Rev Reents left the church to become an army chaplain, he would go on to serve until the end of 1945 and would be reinstalled in his parish as pastor until his retirement in 1959! Interestingly after the war the parish building had been to small to hold all the parishioners so they bought the Church on the Army Air Base at Bruning Nebraska and had It added onto their parish! I could not find anything else pertaining to his military service hopefully someone here can provide me with more info! Defiantly turned out to be a more interesting piece then I expect and I think I will hang onto it for sometime! Images are from the auction so they are only mediocre I haven't had time to take more images myself!

BEAST Posted January 16, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 16, 2019 Nice medallion! From Find a Grave: During World War II he was an Army chaplain, serving the European Theater, and he continued service in the National Guard until 1960. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/176057733/john-h.-reents According to this website, he was with the 134th Infantry. This site has a photo also. http://www.coulthart.com/134/photo14.htm
